You are tracking from a VOR and have obtained a positive fix. The distance from this positive fix to the destination aerodrome [which has an NDB] is 150 m. GNSS is not to be considered. What is the minimum required rated coverage of the NDB at the destination aerodrome?

    • A. 50 nm
    • B. 23 nm
    • c. 26 nm
    • D. 38 nm
    • E. 20% of the distance flown

If anyone knows how to complete this would be much appreciated.

Hey Alex, cheers for your good question. Was there any additional context given for the question about the flight? Perhaps the type of operation.

AIP ENR 1.1 para 4.1.1 (extracted: 3rd April 2024) states that, for flights under the IFR the fix must not exceed two hours (see image).

I checked out system but couldn’t find this question. Let me know if it is one of ours and I’ll look harder!

Hey Jonty, thanks for the reply 🙂 It is off our flight schools designated exam website, ‘ClassMarker.’ Sometimes they have very obscure and confusing questions, as I am pretty sure a minority of the questions are written by instructors.

I honestly believe that its missing a key element. However, thank you for the reference, I will make a note of it.

      Alex
